Despite a sceptical greeting and a slow start in the 80s, mobile phones have had one of the biggest changes on society of any recent gadget. Initially mocked as a status symbol for yuppies and city traders, cheap production quickly moved them from flashy status symbol, to must have gadget, to everyday appliance.
As mobile phones became smaller, cheaper, and easier to use, more and more people started to use them. Even as they became every day items, carried around as an essential along with our house keys and purse, the miniature computers inside them become more and more advanced.
These large increases in computing power allowed the manufacturers and carriers to start offering customisation options, allowing users to modify their own phones with clip on covers, wallpaper pictures to display on screen – and downloadable polyphonic ringtones.
Initially only basic cheap ringtones were offered, using a limited range of sounds to play the sort of tacky music you’d expect to hear as hold music. However, manufacturers soon realised how popular cheap ringtones were, and so started to add more complex audio functions to their mobiles.
Mobile phones can now play complete CD quality music and sound effects, and be configured to play a specific tune for a group of people, as well as when recieving a text message or other alert. The once heavy and limited status symbols have now evolved into desirable hand held computers, combining PDA and mobile sound system.

If you’re trying to choose between a digital phone recorder and an analog, or cassette model, you may wonder what makes the digital device so much better.
First, while cassettes are still in use, and may continue in business use for a while, they are not as popular as they used to be, and finding cassettes is not as easy as it once was. If you plan to keep this device for ten years, you probably want to consider whether it will still be usable, and whether cassettes will be affordable and easy to find, ten years from now.
Second, if you archive your conversations, storing them on cassette takes a lot of room and some creativity in organizing. Digital telephone recorders store conversations on memory cards. You can easily upload conversations to your computer, archive and organize them, and even burn them on CDs or DVDs for long-term storage.
Third, cassettes can store no more than two hours of phone conversation (one hour per side), but most digital recorders can store dozens, even hundreds of hours of conversations.
Fourth, most digital recording devices have higher sound quality than cassette. Even the best cassette recorder will have a slight hiss from the turning of the cassettes. When you record with a digital phone device, you’ll get much cleaner, crisper sound.
Fifth, cassettes don’t duplicate well, and digital files can be copied endlessly with no loss of quality. This may not be important to you, but if you ever need to copy your conversations, the digital quality is much higher.
Sixth, and most importantly a digital phone recorder is much cooler and more fun to use. It’s smaller, lighter, and more easily carried around, and, it’s really cool. While that may not be the most important factor for everyone, tech-savvy users will want the best device, and in terms of coolness, that’s definitely the digital one.

Computer gaming has long relied on the use of communication among players to function as a more effective unit. This is particularly true among heavily team oriented genres, like massively multiplayer online, real time strategy, and first person shooter gamers, an example of each being World of Warcraft, Company of Heroes, and Counter-Strike. Traditionally, this would have been done simply by typing to the other player, but this was a horrible inconvenience when taking the time to type an entire sentence out could result in a lack of focus on more pressing concerns. Therefore, computer gaming headsets have been becoming more popular every year to give players more freedom to play the game while increasing the speed of communications among players.
Extra Game Processing
Many computer gaming headsets are designed specifically with gaming in mind. That means that many models actually include game processing technology chips inside (at least, if they are USB), so audio quality will be superb, giving players crystal clear stereo or (in the past year or so) surround sound audio with dozens or even a hundred different audio channels at once. However, one of these headsets can also function as a computer phone headset, so you can talk to your buddies on Ventrilo, TeamSpeak or Skype as needed with the same level of audio fidelity.
USB computer gaming headsets, as mentioned previously, often include some type of processor built in because they don’t use the processor on sound cards in your computer. Therefore, the only way to get similar levels of audio fidelity is to do the processing right on the headset, so you aren’t left with decreased audio quality just because you aren’t using your X-Fi sound card from Creative. However, you can still likely get a slightly higher level of audio fidelity from your computer gaming headset if you purchase one that can hook into your sound card, as the sound card likely has a much more powerful audio processor located on it.
Some good computer gaming headsets include Sennheiser, Logitech and Plantronics, although there are many different companies out there that offer great products. To get a better idea about the relative quality of a particular headset, head online and check out sites that offer reviews of the products (doesn’t matter between customer and professional reviews of products). Even if you just go out to your local Best Buy or Circuit City and pick up a modestly priced headset, you likely won’t be disappointed with its performance. For the quickest and most efficient type of communication in games, you need a computer gaming headset.

How SMS Works
SMS, or Short Message Service, is the technology behind what we often refer to as ‘text messages’ or ‘SMSes’, as well as what allows for news alerts on cellular phones. In recent years SMS has ballooned to over a 50 billion dollar industry.
Short Message Service actually refers to a framework that uniquely allows computers, or in this case phones, to communicate with each other without the need of a central hub. With SMS, phones can find each other, send short packets of information back and forth, and do it all without any central computer to guide them. But because the system does not rely upon fixed lines like a land based telephone system does, the amount of information that can be sent at one time is limited in size.
New developments in the technology have allowed for even longer messages to be sent. Long or Concatenated SMS is a development that allows multiple messages to be combined to form a single message. In effect, what happens is that your phone actually sends out a few smaller messages and then the receiving phone simply compiles those messages so that for users on both ends, it appears as though the message were cohesive. While there are some limitations, the brilliance behind SMS is that because there is no need for central hubs, and thus the system can be expanded indefinitely without any concerns of it slowing down or becoming more expensive.
The most common form of SMS is ‘texting’. Because many companies charge by the word, individuals have come up with a sort of ‘texting slang’ to cut down on the amount of words required to convey a particular message. For example, ‘gr8’ and ‘BTW’ mean ‘great’ and ‘by the way’. In addition, other words have just been shortened, such as ‘lata’ to mean ‘later’. Most users simply pick up the lingo through frequent use.
The major advantage of SMS is its price. The price is typically $0.05 per message, a significant cut below that of traditional telephony and cell phone per-minute charges. The savings of SMS has its roots in the nature of the technology. Short Message Service, like SIP, is modeled on a peer to peer model and not a cog and wheel like traditional communication systems. This means that instead of having to route a message through a central hub, your text goes straight from you to its destination. This has radically cut down on the cost of SMS implementation and led to its overwhelming popularity throughout the world for marketing or other purposes.
Short Message Service (SMS) has radically changed the face of the communications industry – Internet marketing. While the practice has become quite common throughout the world, it has only recently become popular here in the United Stats, a growth partly predicated upon, surprisingly enough, its featured role in the show American Idol. The fact that ‘texting’ is quickly gaining both in popularity and recognition in the United States is not surprising however, due to its ability to offer users a cheap, quick, and often fun way to communicate with friends and family.

One of the most successful platforms of all time, the Wii Console is easily the best family-oriented console available today. When you purchase a Wii, there are a range of package options to choose so you can choose the one that suits your family’s interest best.
The basic pack comes with the Wii Remote and Wii Sports, which features five distinct nintendo wii games for you to enjoy. Other packages may include one or more of the many different controllers available for the Wii as well as other games to suit your taste.
The Wii takes a rather unique approach to the way in which it is used which is why it has become such a rage. With the easy-to-use Wii Menu which resembles TV channels, you can easily navigate with the wireless controller by simply pointing at the screen. The Wii Menu includes the Mii Channel (which allows you to customize your own character for play), the Wii Shop where you can purchase additional channels for your Wii console through WiiWare, and much more.
The Wii console is also backwards compatible with the Nintendo GameCube, meaning that you can plug in your old GameCube controller and memory cards and play those games on it too. You can connect the GameBoy Advance to it as well. If you have a Nintendo DS, the Wii console can communicate with it over a built-in wireless networking capabilities. This allows you to use the DS as a controller in games such as Pokemon Battle Revolution, and the Wii can enhance or expand other DS games as well. Despite the common misconseption that the Wii console is suitable only for children, there is now a huge collection of games available for the whole family to enjoy.

The world of gaming comes at a price, a big one now that the new Xbox 360 has really hit the market by storm. The system has been out awhile, and more and more people are finding themselves picking them up off the shelves.
But with the new technology of gaming systems on the market, higher definition means paying more for the games. If you’re going to shell out $60 for every game you want to play, shouldn’t you at least know a little about the game play before deciding whether it’s worth the money? After all, you can’t return a game that sucks once you’ve opened it.
Where to Find Them
You can’t trust every source that’s out there, so it’s important to know which sources are safe to go to for the information you need when it comes to Xbox 360 game reviews.
Magazines picked up off the rack at the supermarket offer plenty of information not only about newly released games, but games that aren’t even on the shelves yet. Magazines like Official Xbox Magazine, otherwise known as OXM, are perfect reads for those looking for Xbox 360 game reviews. Electronic Gaming Monthly offers up a ton of cool Xbox game information along with games for other platforms including PC games.
You can purchase these magazines one at a time, but may find a subscription to be a benefit to you. In fact, OXM offers up a monthly demo disc with their magazine subscriptions, letting you test the waters of many games before they even hit the stores. You can even find game reviews on the demo discs that share images and sometimes some game play for you to scrutinize.
Other places to find reliable Xbox 360 game reviews are websites like gameplay.com and gamestop.com. These websites offer Xbox 360 demos and game reviews along with other user friendly content such as cheat sheets and walkthroughs. Gamer reviews are usually popular on these websites, along with forums meant specifically for sharing thoughts and information on particular games.
All in all, as long as you know the resource of where you’re getting your information, Xbox 360 game reviews can really help to make sure you’re money goes to the right games without having to worry about paying for a game you may spend only a couple of hours on before putting back on the shelf to collect dust.

Rock Pedal is a Rock Band drum replacement for Nintendo Wii. Rock Pedal hit the market on April 18th, 2008. Orders came in slowly for the first few days.
After about a week, word of mouth had spread and the orders came in a bit faster and on a more regular basis.
On May 1st, Cena (a popular reviewer for Rock Band products, especially drum pedals) put out a very glowing review about Rock Pedal–deeming it his very favorite Rock Band drum pedal on the market.
Of course, I was ecstatic about the positive review by Cena. But not even I expected the onslaught of Rock Pedal orders that was about to come. The far reach of Cena’s review coupled with a $7 discount we offered in conjunction with the review helped us set a record for most Rock Pedals sold in one day.
The bad news: We hadn’t planned for success. We only had some hundreds of pedals accounted for in the whole world. I called my supplier and found out the tragically, we wouldn’t be able to get more pedals for three and a half months–until late August.
Nooooooooo! I had to announce to the whole world that we wouldn’t be able to resume shipping until at least late August. A lot of people canceled their orders right away.
But many others kept theirs. They had done their research on all the different Rock Band drum pedals on the market, and they had quickly learned that Rock Pedal was the best.
I must say that I was really amazed (and surprised) by the reaction of all my customers. I would have thought I was going to get irate emails and phone calls, cursing me out, tell me where to go…if you know what I mean
But that didn’t happen. For the most part, everybody was real nice and understanding. I offered a small refund to all those that stuck with Rock Pedal…and me. I was really grateful.
Over the last four months, the orders continued to roll in. Word had definitely spread on the Internet and elsewhere that Rock Pedal really was the best Rock Band drum pedal on the market.
Not only does our pedal have a magnetic sensor (thus nothing to break) but it has more adjustments than the other pedals. This allows each user to customize Rock Pedal to their liking…to their playing style.
Rock Pedal is also fully compatible with all the different video games systems: Playstation 2 (PS2), Playstation 3 (PS3), Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. Rock Pedal also works flawless with Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2.
If you would like to learn more about Rock Pedal or order a Rock Pedal (we ship worldwide), then please visit [Rock Pedal]

With as far as games have come along through history, it’s tough to say where we could possibly go next. I mean really, we have witnessed the evolution of the board game into the computer game, then the computer game to the arcade game as well as the television requiring console (we’ll call it the early console- like Atari), then, from the early console evolved the high graphic output consoles and portables of today. The latest console phenomenon, the Wii, has even taken the gaming experience a bit further to add the first “virtual” aspect to gaming in the form of a 3 dimensional sensing remote!
So, where does gaming go next? Will it ever become completely virtual? I guess only time will tell but it appears that just about anything is a reality and the gaming industry continues to push the envelope to give gamers the most realistic experience possible.
Here is an overview of the history behind the evolution of gaming:
1947- The Cathode-Ray Tube was developed and patented by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr and Estle Ray Mann. It was used to simulate missile firing patterns at a target and had knobs to adjust curve and speed of the path
1952- “OXO”, an early version of Tic-Tac-Toe was created by A.S. Douglas as a demonstration of human-computer interaction.
1958- William Higinbotham created a game called “Tennis for Two” on his analog computer and amused visitors to the Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York
1960s- People started creating their own games from university mainframe computers as a hobby since access to computers was still scarce. Games like “Spacewar!”, “Chase”, and “Space Travel” were created.
1970s- The Golden Age of Gaming. Computer game development took several different directions- arcade machines, handhelds and personal computers. Galaxy Game became the first coin operated arcade game and Atari was released.
1908s- Publishing Houses appeared and games in various genres emerged. Pseudo-3D graphics began to be used. This was the era that Pac-Man, Zork and the Legend of Zelda were released. It was also the beginning of online internet gaming, handheld LCD games and the first Nintendo Console.
1990s- This period was all about maturing what was already developed. It was about perfection. It was also the time period that the Sims series emerged. Arcade games declined and handhelds started to take the shape they are in today. MMORPGs took shape and Playstation emerged.
And that takes us to today… Xbox, Playstation, Wii- systems with extreme graphic abilities and tons of realism. I don’t know how it could possibly get much better….
