More than half a decade ago, Nintendo revolutionized the portable gaming market by producing the DS. Hailed as a immensely popular machine, the DS boasted an innovative design, addictive titles and is responsible for opening up gaming to abroader market. Since that time, Nintendo have released a number of updates and new models, but which of these different Nintendo DS models is right for buyers?
Despite being the longest lived and most outmoded console, the first DS is still popular. New models are not sold in shops, but lots are sold for cheap prices online, and this adds to their fame. The first model is also able to recognise the earliest incarnations of gaming titles which are now not available to the later models. If gamers can see past the size and weight, this model is excellent for those on a budget, the most affordable of the different Nintendo DS models.
Next up, the DS Lite did not offer a great departure from the functions of the first, but as the moniker suggests it cut the size and weight considerably. Curiously, the DS Lite also boasts the best battery time of all the different Nintendo DS models, evenwhen compared to the more recent ones. The DS Lite is still generally popular for people that like less expensive consoles and are not bothered about the extra media of the DSi.
Nintendo DSi produced the most notable change to the features. Adding loads of awesome new multimedia capabilities, such as game downloads and dual cameras. Again, all the functions of the first DS were built upon, with the screen and audio being expanded. The DSi remains the most technically impressive of the different Nintendo DS models, and currently the hottest.
And with the DSi XL coming soon, there’s lots of choice when making a purchase. The earlier incarnations offer less features and sheen, but are cost effective and still offer great gaming. However, if you’re after multimedia capacities and more bang for your buck, the later models are a sound investment. One point is certain though, all the different Nintendo DS models offer a great gaming experience!
