On the subject of video game violence and children…

There have been a lot of studies done on violent video games and how they impact children.  While I agree that it’s probably true, shouldn’t the responsibility of what breeds violence in children lie on the parent that allowed their child to rent or buy the violent video game?

I think that there is folly in throwing accussations of responsibilty on inanimate, unthinking, unrationizing objects such as a video game.  Heck, I don’t even see reason to blame the creators of such games- they do put age appropriateness and content warnings on the box!

Concusion- Parents should take an active part in choosing games for their children.  Pay attention to labels, take a test drive of the game before letting them play; children are growing up much faster these days with the introduction of more obvious sexual inuendos and more violent games that spew blood and gutts across the screen, but it’s your responsibility as a parent to determine how much of that (and at what age) they should be exposed to.
